Third Annual New FWPS Certificated Staff Breakfast

On Monday, August 22, Federal Way Public Schools hosted the third annual New to FWPS Breakfast at the Federal Way Performing Arts and Events Center, to give almost 120 new certificated staff members a warm Federal Way welcome!
The morning opened with lively musical entertainment from Decatur High School’s jazz band and breakfast for new staff and accompanying principals and district leadership.
Once the program commenced, Superintendent Dr. Dani Pfeiffer and guest speakers including FWPS Board President Hiroshi Eto, FWEA President Shannon McCann, and Principal Christina Spencer provided words of inspiration and encouragement to teachers embarking on a new and exciting role. We also heard from rising Federal Way High School senior Isaiah Afework, who shared how instrumental teachers are in shaping the futures of scholars.
Isaiah largely credits his teachers for getting him to where he is today, sharing, “I am now in the position where I can be a leader and try to help others who are struggling around me. Today, I am a 3.97 honors student, and my big stress is deciding which college scholarship offer I want to accept.” He continued, “You can literally change lives! You can be spoken of in homes the way we speak of Mrs. Hoag and all the other amazing life changers here in Federal Way, because you are now one of them.”
Teacher Marcus James also encouraged this year’s new certificated staff by urging them to “create family environments and allow students to be challenged and pushed to their full potential.” He emphasized the importance of being a pillar of support to scholars and drawing on support from fellow staff.
Today’s breakfast uncovered the theme of what it is possible to achieve when individuals are dedicated to making a difference in the lives of scholars.
“You are here today because you possess the unique talents, skills, and commitment that are exactly what the scholars and families of Federal Way Public Schools need,” Superintendent Dr. Pfeiffer shared. “Today marks the launch of your journey as part of Team Federal Way, or what we refer to as FWPS Dream Makers. We believe that our educators are the key to our scholars’ success. Your gifts, talents, hope, and optimism are what create the conditions in which 21,000 students thrive and realize their limitless potential.”
Following the breakfast program, new staff headed to Todd Beamer High School to engage in the annual two-day New to FWPS Institute where they will meet with their school teams and prepare for the school year.
We are excited to welcome our new certificated staff, many of which are first-time teachers, to our district.
