Good News Sept. 30, 2025

This summer, the Thomas Jefferson High School Math Team took 36 students to Orlando, Florida, for the 53rd annual Mu Alpha Theta National Math Convention. Thomas Jefferson continued their nation-leading streak with 30 consecutive conventions placing in the Top 10 schools, finishing 9th overall in the Sweepstakes competition this year.

Congratulations on this outstanding achievement and to all our scholars who earned team and individual honors, including multiple top 10 finishes. We would also like to recognize Clinton from the Class of 2025, who received the prestigious Governors’ Leadership and Service Award, which includes a scholarship.

Congratulations to 169 scholars from all our high schools in the 2025 graduating class who received the Seal of Biliteracy!

The Seal of Biliteracy honors graduates who have achieved advanced proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking in one or more languages in addition to English. This accomplishment highlights the dedication of our scholars and the valuable skills they carry forward into college, career, and life.

Students who have earned the Seal of Biliteracy represent our commitment to thriving in our multi-cultural and diverse society. We are FWPS Proud of our scholars!

169 graduates, Class of 2025, earned the Seal of Biliteracy.

It is with both gratitude and a touch of sadness that we announce the retirement of Michael Swartz, who has served Federal Way Public Schools with unwavering dedication for the past 24 years. As of today, Michael steps away from his role as Executive Director of Capital Projects, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to shape our schools and community for generations.

Michael has made a lasting impact in many roles—assistant principal, elementary principal, principal on special assignment, and most recently, executive director. His leadership helped shape our schools and community, from guiding school-level success to overseeing major projects like the 2017 bond and the transformation of Memorial Field.

We thank Michael for his years of service, his dedication to excellence, and his lasting contributions to our district. We wish him all the best in this next chapter of life.

In recognition of 24 years of dedicated service to FWPS, congratulations on your retirement.
