FWHS Scholar Chosen as Athlete of the Week

Congratulations to Federal Way High School scholar-athlete, Zach Victor, for being chosen as the CenturyLink / Seahawk Athlete of the Week!

As a three-sport scholar-athlete, Zach is enrolled in the Cambridge Preparatory Honors Program, the National Junior Honor Society, AVID and maintains a 3.9 GPA. He is captain of Federal Way High School’s golf team and is also highly involved in the Federal Way community. As the Century Link / Seahawk athlete of the week, Zach brought a $1,000 grant to Federal Way High School’s athletic department, and was recognized during a Seahawk’s home game.

Efforts such as this are in support of strategic plan Goal Three active learners, engaged, empowered critical thinkers.

Student Leaders Organize Fifth Annual We Scare Hunger Event

For the fifth consecutive year, Federal Way Public School students participated in the October 31 We Scare Hunger event to stamp out hunger in our community.

We would like to recognize the student leaders who helped put on this event:

Our students invited the greater community to attend the event, wear costumes and bring food donations. Once the rally was completed students set out to “trick or treat” for canned food throughout Federal Way neighborhoods. A total of 920 pounds of food was collected, and donated to the Multi Service Center in Federal Way.

Councilmember Lydia Dawson spoke at the event to a crowd, and those in attendance included our very own Superintendent Dr. Tammy Campbell, students, families and community members.

Extracurricular activities are in direct support of strategic plan Goal 3, Active Learners: Engaged, Empowered, Critical Thinkers.

Twin Lakes' Kindergarten Class Receives Perfect Attendance Twice In A Row

Classes at Twin Lakes Elementary are given a letter for each day of 100 percent attendance, spelling out MARINER after seven days.

Twin Lake’s focus on attendance is tied to the district-wide emphasis on Goal Two of the strategic plan: whole child: thriving, confident, responsible individuals. One measure of success for this goal is student- scholars participating in at least 95 percent of instructional time.

We are happy to announce this is the second time Mrs. Christensen’s kindergarten class has received all the letters for perfect attendance!

TJHS Debate Team Places In Regional Debate Tournament 

Congratulations to the Thomas Jefferson High School debate team who recently competed and placed in the regional T.O.H. Karl Invitational Speech and Debate Tournament held at Pacific Lutheran University! There were 30 schools present mainly from Western Washington, but also included a British Columbia school.

We would like to recognize these scholars:

Community Partners Keep FWHS Scholars Warm With Coat Drive

South King Fire & Rescue has been a pivotal partner in keeping our Mirror Lake Elementary students warm. Recently, as part of Operation Warm, they distributed 173 coats to kindergarten and first grade students at Mirror Lake. On coat distribution day, these firefighters brought a fire truck along with Sparky the dog to greet the students.

We would like to recognize the following individuals:
