Congratulations to Decatur High School Scholar, Kysen Ellis for winning the YoungArts Award with Distinction for the Jazz/Trombone Discipline in the 2024 National Arts Competition.
This prestigious award acknowledges artistic endeavors displaying outstanding technique, a compelling, refined, nuanced, and well-defined artistic perspective, along with a level of thinking/performance that surpasses peers at the same career stage. Recipients of this accolade were invited to engage in National YoungArts Week in Miami, where their work undergoes additional assessment for potential cash awards of up to $10,000.
Those honored with distinction who attend National YoungArts Week and fulfill eligibility criteria are also eligible for nomination to the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. In addition, Kysen will receive a lifetime of creative and professional support to help advance his artistic journey.

Congratulations to both the Decatur and Todd Beamer high schools’ Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) chapters for earning awards through the DECA’s Chapter Campaigns as part of DECA’s leadership program for the year.
DECA is a student organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management in high schools around the globe.
Decatur High School’s DECA chapter earned the Thrive Level Chapter Campaigns recognition in the Promotional and Community Service campaigns. Todd Beamer High School’s DECA chapter earned the Thrive Level Chapter Campaigns in Promotional, Community Service, and the Ethical Leadership campaigns and the Achievement Level for Membership Campaign recognitions.
Both chapters are now eligible to register members to participate in the Thrive Academy at the DECA International Career Development Conferences in Anaheim, California.
