NextGen STEAM Lounge

High school students, you're invited to hang out in the new NextGen STEAM Lounge at STEAM Exploration Night, a chill space just (and only) for high school students! Team up with friends, explore exciting career paths, and have fun!

Inside the Lounge:

  • ✨ Network with other high school scholars and STEAM professionals 
  • 📸 Take photos at our photo booth (fun with props or professional headshots - your choice!) 
  • 🍕 Refuel with pizza, plus soda and candy (only available in the lounge) 
  • 💼 Learn about innovative careers through casual conversations and interactive activities (VR included!)
  • 🎁 Raffle giveaways every 15 minutes!

During the evening, you can hang out in the NextGen STEAM Lounge with friends while listening to music and enjoying food and drinks, participate an immersive VR college or career experience, or engage in one of our planned activities.

Did you know there is money set aside for students pursuing careers in STEAM? Learn how you can unlock the funds to set your STEAM dream in motion by using Go Merry to find scholarship opportunities that align with your college and career interests.

6:45-7:00 pm:
The Power of Networking
by FWPS College and Career Readiness
Learn how to leverage connection and networking to reach your goals starting in high school. Many say, it's not what you know — it's who you know. Find out how you can combine your knowledge and social skills to carve out your unique future.

7:15-7:30 pm:
Success Your Way: Staying Flexible to Find Your Fit
by Yobel Mengistu, Communications Associate Manager at Starbucks
Hear from Thomas Jefferson High School alumni and now Starbucks communications professional Yobel Mengistu as he shares his unique career journey. Through a fish bowl style conversation, you'll learn that a career path is not always straight, and it's okay to change course to pursue your dreams.

7:45-8:00 pm:
Make Your Mark: You Belong in STEAM

Imposter syndrome is real. Dr. Epiphany Johnson, a Pacific Islander family doctor, will share how she navigates being one of the few doctors of color, and why representation is important in the workplace.
