Immigration Resources for Staff
Quick Jump to Staff Protocols and Scripts
The District has a clear policy and procedure, in alignment with State Law, around Immigration Enforcement on School Campuses. Only the Superintendent or General Counsel are authorized to authorize Federal Law Enforcement entrance into a school.
If you encounter a Federal Law Enforcement agent or agents at your school location, our policy and procedure is to direct them to wait to speak with an administrator (principal/assistant principal/dean) outside of the building. The administrator will ask for the purpose of their visit, a copy of any warrant, the agent(s) name(s)/badge number, and ask them to wait while they make copies of any warrant. The administrator will then direct the agent(s) to ESC. Then the administrator will call the Superintendent and General Counsel immediately, as well as send the copy of any warrant provided to them via email.
The Superintendent and General Counsel will review the warrant and direct the next steps. Please be aware that in reviewing any documentation, there are significant legal differences between an administrative warrant and a judicial warrant, which is why legal review is required.
This document contains protocols and scripts that can be used when interacting with Federal Law Enforcement agents. While we have attempted to anticipate as many scenarios as possible, we cannot anticipate or predict every circumstance. However, our basic protocol and our policy and procedure remain the same.
