Do we need to train all staff in power standards so they have a deep understanding of the process?

This is up to each building to determine. TFL suggests you take teachers through a mock process of identifying power standards and unpacking a power standard so teachers have an understanding of the process. We wouldn’t say a “deep” understanding is necessary. If teachers understand what their colleagues did to arrive at power standards and learning targets, they will be better able to plan instruction as well as know what a student must be able to do and what level of rigor is expected to meet the learning targets.  If we are fortunate enough to have the two days of training in August, we intend to spend some time reviewing the process for identifying both power standards and learning targets.
