Thomas Jefferson High School

Project overview

Now the oldest high school in Federal Way Public Schools, the open design of the campus is challenging to secure. Additionally, the current elementary enrollment is greatest in the north end, and TJHS will need to be right-sized to meet this growing community as students move through the K-12 system.

  • Projected capacity: 1600
  • Architect: Bassetti Architects
  • General Contractor/Construction Manager (GC/CM): Cornerstone General Contractors
  • Design: Fall 2018–Winter 2020
  • Construction:  Winter 2020–Winter 2021/22
  • Expected opening: Fall 2021

Ongoing Community Engagement

community engagement TJHS

We’ve held several community meetings about this project throughout the planning and design phases, and we’ve heard from neighbors, staff, students and families. Thank you to all who have shared your voice throughout this process. You provide a valuable perspective as we continue through the design process of the new Thomas Jefferson High School.

You’ll have the opportunity to see the latest design concepts of the new Thomas Jefferson High School and share your thoughts during an upcoming Bond Update Meeting on May 28, 2019 from 6–8 p.m. at Thomas Jefferson High School.

Preparing for Construction

Summer work at Thomas Jefferson High School

You may notice some work happening at Thomas Jefferson High School after students leave campus this summer. Crews will be on site preparing for construction to begin this winter by conducting some preliminary site work. This includes relocating portables, removing underground storage tanks, and modifying the parking lot to accommodate the construction area. Parking will be limited during this time and throughout construction.

If you have any question or concerns during this time, please call us at 253-945-BOND (2663).
