Supt Campbell Launches Early Learning Initiative with Bezos Academy

April 20, 2021

New Montessori-inspired preschool program in Federal Way aims to develop creative leaders, original thinkers, and lifelong learners

With a high demand for more preschool programs in Federal Way, Superintendent Tammy Campbell has launched a new early learning initiative with Bezos Academy to bring their tuition-free, Montessori-inspired program to our community.

More than half of families with preschool aged children in Federal Way don’t have access to affordable preschool, and it is gratifying to have Bezos Academy invest in the community. Their full-day, year-round, tuition-free preschool model for children ages 3-5 directly aligns with the district’s Early Years strategic plan goal.

“I’m thrilled Federal Way Public Schools will benefit from this kind of investment in early learning programs,” said Supt. Campbell. “Programs like these can change the lives of our children, putting them on a trajectory starting in the early years to help them reach their highest potential.”

“We believe all children deserve the great start that an excellent preschool provides,” said Mike George, President of Bezos Academy. “We’re excited to join the community of preschools nurturing the potential in Federal Way’s children to become creative leaders, original thinkers, and lifelong learners.”

The Bezos Academy Federal Way site is slated to open in the fall of 2021 starting with two classrooms, and the program is expected to grow to reach more students in the future. Bezos Academy operates its preschool program independently from Federal Way Public Schools. The location will be at one of Federal Way Public Schools’ buildings (the former DeVry building). More information and an application to the program will be available later this spring.
