In Federal Way Public Schools, we value parents and guardians as critical partners in their child’s learning. Under Superintendent Dr. Tammy Campbell’s leadership, FWPS has continued to offer and expand family partnership opportunities. Here are a few highlights and a new opportunity offered this:
Last year, we hit our highest Scholar Led Conferences (SLCs) attendance rate of 99%.
Over 5,384 FWPS parents and guardians surveyed in the 2018-19 school year ranked us higher than the national average in the characteristics of high performing schools. 84% said parents/families participate in important decisions about their child's education.
Inviting parents to participate on committees, the In It Together Parent Academy, parent panels, interview teams, and more. One recent example is school and district leaders attended an August listening session where eighteen parents and guardians and seven scholars candidly shared their experience with what is working and what could be improved in Federal Way Public Schools.
New this year, Superintendent Dr. Tammy Campbell is starting an advisory with parents and guardians to share various approaches the district is taking and listen to trends of what is working and what is not. The goal is to have two parent representatives from every school that can meet with the superintendent and other parents on a monthly basis. The parent advisory interest form can be found at https://www.fwps.org//cms/module/selectsurvey/TakeSurvey.aspx?SurveyID=154 and is due to the Communications Department by end of day Friday, September 6, 2019.
