Authentically engaging with and listening to our parents and guardians is essential to our work. Our most recent parent survey through The Center for Educational Effectiveness in the 2018-19 school year reflected the voices of 5,384 parents and guardians.
According to this survey, FWPS parents rank us higher than the national average in the characteristics of high performing schools.
The following are additional highlights from that survey:
91% said the school believes and expects that all students can meet state standards
90% said their child understands the expectations and standards of the school
90% said their child’s school is orderly and supports learning
89% said they are greeted warmly when they call or visit the school
87% said the school communicates effectively to all families
84% said parents/families participate in important decisions about their child's education
The work of educating all 23,000 plus scholars in Federal Way is complex and rewarding work. Schools cannot do this work alone. When families and community partner with schools in constructive and positive manner, GREAT Things happen for our students.
We will be continuing our efforts to engage with our families. One example will be a parent focus group at our All Admin Retreat in August in which we will be listening to a panel of parents and students share what is working in FWPS and specific ways that we can improve.
