    Dear Star Lake Families,

Well, here we are, in the blink of an eye; it’s June again!  Summer vacation is right around the corner, and my garden and the beach are calling my name!  Before we go, we have a number of fun activities planned to wrap up the year. Monday, we have kindergarten and 5th grade graduation events, Tuesday is field day and Wednesday we have our end of the year assembly!  Please join us for the fun!!

I would like to thank all of our families for your partnership in learning. There are so many ways you help to support our scholars as they learn and grow each day. From volunteering in your child’s classroom, going on a field trip, helping at recess, serving on our PTA, attending a family event, coming to student-led conferences, reading a book with your child at night, to asking your child “What did you learn at school today?”  We get to work together to help our students learn and grow, and I thank you for entrusting us with your most precious children!

Our students have made wonderful academic gains this year. We have grown from 36% (in October) to 50% (this week) of our students being able to independently read at the end of year grade level target on IRLA (independent reading leveled assessment); and 67% of our students are reading in their grade level and are close to end of year target!  We have also grown from 25% on level as assessed by iReady reading in the fall to 55%, and from 14% on level as assessed by iReady math in the fall to 55%.  And, all of these on target percentages are HIGHER than our percentages last year! 93% of our students are demonstrating kind, safe, productive behavior consistently and are earning many Star Lake Way tickets and Eagle Wings!  It was my great pleasure to buy lunch for 35 students this year who earned and turned in 50 Star Lake Way tickets.  What great conversations we had!

I want to thank our dedicated, talented staff who are continuously working together and analyzing data and instructional practice so that we can create a highly engaging, supportive learning environment for each of our students.  We love our kiddos!

I wish you all a summer filled with sunshine, lazy afternoons, great books and adventures!  All the best to you and I will see you on September 3rd, our first day of school, at 8:35!
