Hello Silver Lake Families,
I'm your proud principal, Kelly Sutton. I'd like to formally introduce myself: I'm a proud graduate from Renton High School, after living in Gary, Indiana until I was 16 years old. After high school, I majored in Elementary and Special Education at Western Washington University. I taught middle school English, 3rd-8th grade SPED, and last taught 2nd grade at Lakeland Elementary. I graduated from Central Washington University with my Master's degree in Administration.
Outside of schooling, I LOVE my family. My partner and I have two children over the course of 15 years being together. My son attends Silver Lake as well because I believe in and love being a part of the Silver Lake family. I am a Federal Way resident and love that I live a hop, skip, and jump away from our building.
I am so excited to be YOUR principal. I am excited to venture into this school year and welcome back ALL of our scholars in-person!
In the spring, we experienced a glimpse of normalcy because some of our scholars came back to the building through AM and PM sessions. Rest assured, we are prepping and planning for a safe return with guidance from the CDC.
We have great things in-store this year, grounding ourselves the theme, "I'm going to PUSH through!" We are ready to accelerate learning and support us all with high expectations.I will be hosting two Principal & Parent Zoom Sessions to share current health & safety protocols and what the 1st Three Days of School will look like for your scholar. These zoom sessions will take place on August 26th from 6:30-7:30pm and August 30th from 6:00-7:00pm. I hope you can join me for one of these sessions. Thank you for trusting us with your scholar(s) and your partnership as we prepare for the full in-person return this fall. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have questions.Ice Cream Social! Please join us for a welcome back, Ice Cream Social on Thursday, August 26th, from 5-6pm at Silver Lake! Meet your teachers and lear about the safety and health protocols. See you soon!
Fall Re-Opening: Using guidance from OSPI and the Department of Health, we are planning for a safe return that prioritizes learning. In accordance with Gov. Inslee and OSPI direction, we will be opening the year with full face to face instruction. Please stay tuned for more information to come in the coming weeks.
Health and Safety and Re-Opening: Our scholars’ health and safety are priority. As we prepare for our face to face fall re-opening, our district is hard at work developing health and safety protocols which include social distancing guidelines, arranging schedules that minimize high traffic contact, considering bus transportation and engaging in deep cleaning protocols to minimize the spread of germs. As part of ensuring a safe learning environment, all scholars and staff will be required to wear face masks. Please take the time this summer to both reinforce and practice the wearing of face masks. FWPS will continue to place health and safety as a priority as we look forward to welcoming our scholars back on September 1st. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
