Mission Statement and Purpose
The goal of the Remote and Blended Learning department is to make sure that all scholars have access to an on-standards curriculum, and that instructional strategies are differentiated to meet the individual needs of each scholar. This department is focused on ensuring that this learning continues whether scholars are engaging in learning in-person, remotely, synchronously, or asynchronously. We prepare for circumstance to make sure that learning is uninterrupted and enhanced through blended learning strategies.
What is Blended Learning?
Blended learning is a formal education program in which a scholar learns:
-
In part through online delivery of content and instruction with some element of student control over time, place, path and/or pace.
-
In part at a supervised brick-and-mortar location away from home.
-
In a way in which the modalities along each scholar’s learning path within a course or subject are connected to provide an integrated learning experience. (In other words, the learning experiences a scholar engages in are related to the standards of the course, tying to what has come before and what will follow).
-
We use blended learning in our work to create small groups and individual supports. When scholars are engaging in learning in Canvas, or through one of our online resources like iReady or other online resources, while the teacher meets with small groups or individuals, they are engaging in blended learning.
