District Headlines & Features
Dear Olympic View Families,
On September 3rd our Olympic View Scholars walked through the doors and embarked on the 2019-20 school-year, and I am so excited about this year!
As you know, Federal Way has the motto; “Every Scholar, a Voice, a Dream, and a Bright Future.” At OLV, we are committed to ensuring every student achieves at the highest level. Our theme at OLV this year is “Be the Difference,” and our commitment is to ensure that every adult in our student’s lives makes a difference.
Safety is a top priority in Federal Way and here at Olympic View. At Open House we discussed the many ways the district is committed to provide a safe learning environment for all Scholars. Among theses are; Positive Behavior Reinforcements, building relationships with every Scholar, a new computer filtering system designed to identify concerns online, and an emphasis on safety drills.
At Olympic View we provide every student with high quality engaging instruction. This year, we are focusing on Formative Assessment. Formative assessment is when your child’s teacher checks for understanding during each lesson. Our teachers check the learning frequently and then provide specific feedback to ensure high levels of learning.
State of Education
Are you interested in how we’re doing in Federal Way Public Schools? You’re invited to learn more about the State of Education in FWPS at a community-focused event on October 22, 2019 at 6 p.m., at Federal Way High School, following the regular board meeting. From 6–6:45 p.m., you will have the opportunity to explore booths hosted by scholars from each school in the district, as well as college and career resources, early learning information, school construction information and more! At 6:45, Superintendent Dr. Tammy Campbell will provide an update on the State of Education in Federal Way Public Schools, sharing what’s working well, as well as those areas FWPS is seeking to improve.
In closing I thank you for entrusting the OLV staff with your most precious treasure…your child; an Olympic View Student Scholar. Often I make school-wide announcements during our morning routine or on the intercom. Often times, I challenge our scholars to listen to themselves, their teacher and their parents. Often times I ask them how they are going to be respectful and responsible over the weekend, however, these announcements serve a specific and singular purpose; to ensure that they have a Voice, a Dream and a BRIGHT future.
Honored Principal of the OLV Family
