Dear Olympic View Families,
Olympic View is building a culture of literacy! Our Scholars are bringing home numerous books to read every day, setting Power Goals, and building their “Reading Stamina!” What does “Reading Stamina” mean? Reading stamina is the ability to focus and read independently for long periods of time without being distracted or distracting others. There are some things you can do with your child at home to support this culture of literacy and “Reading Stamina”:
- Limit screen time including phones and tablets.
- Ask your child “What is your Power Goal?”
- Make sure your child has a book (or two) in their backpack and that they are reading at home.
- Provide time (At least 30 minutes) for your child to read.
These suggestions will be incredibly important over Winter Break! Our Student Scholars will have over ten school days away from school. Please, during this time, have your child read each and every day. On the day before Winter Break we will be providing all of our students books to take home over the break to read and enjoy.
We value the partnership with our families!
In closing I thank you for entrusting the OLV staff with your most precious treasure…your child; an Olympic View Student Scholar. Often I make school-wide announcements during our morning routine or on the intercom. Often times, I challenge our scholars to read at home on Early Release days and the weekend. Often times I ask them how they are going to be respectful and responsible over the weekend, however, these announcements serve a specific and singular purpose; to ensure that they have a Voice, a Dream and BRIGHT future.
Honored Principal of the OLV Family
