Preschool and Kindergarten Enrollment
Preschool and kindergarten enrollment follow a different process than our normal online enrollment process. Find the directions for each enrollment option below.
Kindergarten Enrollment

Kindergarten Enrollment
Important Things to Note:
- ⚠️Current FWPS preschool families: If your child turns five by August 31, 2026, they’ll be automatically enrolled in kindergarten at your neighborhood school—no enrollment needed. You’ll just need to complete online verification in August.
- If you are unsure of which elementary school your child will attend, you can look up their school placement with your home address using the School Lookup Tool.
Find your neighborhood school ↗️ - If you would like to place your child at a different elementary school, you must submit an application for Choice Enrollment after completing online enrollment.

Steps to complete Kindergarten Enrollment
If your child is new to Federal Way Public Schools and you have no other children enrolled in our district, you must complete online enrollment.
*If you already have students enrolled in the district, simply log in to your existing ParentVUE account and enroll a new student (Steps 1, 4, and 5).
During the enrollment process, we'll collect important information about your child, family, medical and emergency contacts, and more to ensure we have everything needed to provide the best learning experience, resources, and communication for your child. You will also review and accept our Rights and Responsibilities Handbook, outlining our district's policies and expectations.
- STEP 1: GATHER DOCUMENTS FOR YOUR CHILD
- STEP 2: CREATE A PARENTVUE ACCOUNT
- STEP 3: ACTIVATE YOUR ACCOUNT TO LOG IN
- STEP 4: START ONLINE ENROLLMENT
- STEP 5: ENTER STUDENT INFORMATION AND REVIEW ENROLLMENT
- STEP 6: RECEIVE ENROLLMENT NOTIFICATION
STEP 1: GATHER DOCUMENTS FOR YOUR CHILD
You'll need:
- Address verification (utility bill, lease, etc.)
- Immunization records - Learn more about immunization requirements
- Two emergency contacts, including phone numbers and address
- Medical contact information for your child's physician and dentist
- Age verification (birth certificate, passport, etc.)
- Previous education experience (transcript), if applicable
- Special Education support (IEP), if applicable - Learn more about Special Education services
In addition, if your child has a life-threatening condition, please be sure to provide an updated Individualized Health Plan (IHP), medication order, and medication before the first day of school. A meeting will be scheduled with the school nurse to ensure all medications, orders, and plans are in place for a successful first day of school. Learn more
Existing Families: Skip to Step 4.
New Families: Continue to Step 2.
STEP 2: CREATE A PARENTVUE ACCOUNT
Visit www.fwps.org/online-registration.
On the login page, under “More Options,” choose “Create a New Account”
- You will be asked five questions to ensure parent records aren’t duplicated, then provided the privacy statement. Be sure to answer Question 5 accurately.
- If you answer Question 5 incorrectly, you will not be able to create an account. To start over, you must clear your browsing history or use a different internet browser.
- Once you’ve accepted the privacy statement, you will be asked to provide your first and last name and your email address
STEP 3: ACTIVATE YOUR ACCOUNT TO LOG IN
STEP 4: START ONLINE ENROLLMENT
FOR EXISTING FAMILIES
- Click "Online Registration" and select "Kindergarten Enrollment"
- Proceed to Step 5.
FOR NEW FAMILIES
- Select "Add Family" and complete the required fields in each module on the left-hand side — all required fields will be indicated with a red asterisk (*).
- Additional parents and guardians can be added by clicking “Add New”
- Proceed to Step 5.
STEP 5: ENTER STUDENT INFORMATION AND REVIEW ENROLLMENT
- Select “Add Student” to enter student information and complete this process for each child you would like to enroll. All students need to be added prior to submitting the form. Once you submit, you will not be able to go back and edit the form.
⚠️ If you would like your child to ride the school bus, you must register them for bus transportation during online enrollment to receive a bus assignment. Please note that students who live less than one walking mile to their school are generally not eligible for bus transportation.
Review and Accept Rights and Responsibilities
- Parents/guardians must view and electronically accept the Rights and Responsibilities handbook with each scholar they are enrolling. This .pdf is available to review in the enrollment screen. You can also preview or access the document after completing registration on our website, under Rights and Responsibilities.
Review All Enrollment Information and Submit
- Review your information, and if needed, choose the option to make edits or submit. Once submitted, you will not be able to make any changes until the school completes its steps.
STEP 6: RECEIVE ENROLLMENT NOTIFICATION
Once you submit enrollment, your child's school will review the information provided to process and confirm enrollment. Please allow time for this manual process before reaching out to your child's prospective school.
After enrollment is confirmed, please expect regular communication from your child's school and the district with more information for your family about starting school.
Please be sure to submit any required documentation, including medication and medication forms, Special Education documentation, and immunization records before the start of the school year.

If you are interested in enrolling your child in a FWPS preschool program, you must complete the Pre-Screening Application for Preschool. The Early Learning Department will review your application and notify you of available program options and the next steps for enrollment. Household size, family income, IEP status, and other factors can determine your child’s placement.
Submit a Pre-Screening Application for Preschool
⚠️ If your child has an existing IEP or you believe your child may need early intervention or special education services, please reach out to FWPS Child Find, which provides free screening of children ages three to five years old to identify delays or disabilities.
