Driver’s Ed Class Information

    Please note that while the TSE Office is closed for summer break you can make a payment at one of the following:

    • Payments can be made at any High School Finance Office, please call ahead to be sure the school's finance office is open. 
    • Payments can be made at the ESC.





    Students ages 15 and older can learn to drive this year by signing up for the Federal Way Public Schools, Driver's Ed/Traffic Safety Classes. The registration fee is $550.00, can be paid in full at the time of registration or you can sign up for the payment plan.  Fall classes will meet (2) days of week, Monday & Wednesday or Tuesday & Thursday. 

    Classes are after school (2:15 pm - 4:15 pm), there will be a night class that is offered  (6:00 pm - 8:00 pm) more information will be posted soon about the Fall class schedule.  Behind the wheel drives are completed outside of the classroom hours.  The last day to register for a class is the Thursday prior to classes starting or when classes are filled.  See schedule below for what classes will be offered at what High School (will be updated soon).

    To register for a class, click the link below and complete the class registration form and return it to the Traffic Safety Office.  You can email your class registration form to   When you register for a class you will receive confirmation with the class details and how to get your permit.    Please call the Traffic Safety Office with any questions at 253-945-5731.

    Registration forms must be returned to the Traffic Safety Office located at the ESC or you can email your registration to  Class registration is confirmed once payment is received.   Please do not mail registration forms or payments.   If you have any questions about the registration process please call the Traffic Safety Office at 253-945-5731.   Thank you!

Traffic Safety - Upcoming Events

  • Knowledge Test Dates - Please arrive early due to limited seating.


    Remember to bring your permit (must have picture on permit or bring school ID as well) and a pencil.  You do not need to sign up to take the Knowledge Test, remember to arrive early due to limited seating.  Space is limited, seats are first come first serve. Please note the times below are when the testing will begin, there is no entry once testing has begun. 

    All phases of the Traffic Safety Program must be completed (Student must pass all phases) prior to any testing taking place.   The phases include the class portion and behind the wheel (drives).  Student will not be able to take the Knowledge test if there is a balance on their account. Your Driver's Ed tuition pays for two attempts of taking the Knowledge test, re-take exam fee for the third attempt is $20.00, must be paid prior to taking the test. This fee can be paid at your high school finance office or at the Traffic Safety office.   All payments must be paid prior to arriving to take the Knowledge Test, payments will not be accepted at the testing locations.   If you pay at the school please bring your receipt. Please contact the office at 253-945-5731 with any questions regarding this.   Thank you!
