Nutrition Services is proud to be participating in the USDA Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP). For the 2020-21 school year, only 151 elementary schools in Washington state were chosen to receive the program, and seven of those are here in Federal Way Public Schools - and Mark Twain is one of them! We are lucky to be able to offer this to our scholars. Students are able to taste of a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables each Monday-Thursday (none on early release days) as a light snack. Students will receive short educational lessons and tastes of foods that are a little more adventurous to expand their taste pallets.
There are several USDA waivers in place to allow us to serve FFVP in the remote learning environment, including a waiver to allow FFVP to be served at the same time as school meals and a waiver to allow parents to pick up FFVP.
Beginning Wednesday, October 7, and provided through 2021, FFVP will be served once a week on Wednesdays in conjunction with our meal service. FFVP will be served at Mark Twain, Mirror Lake, Olympic View, Panther Lake, and Sunnycrest from 12:30 pm – 2:30 pm. Scholars at these schools may pick up FFVP at their enrolled school.
