Middle Years Programme International Baccalaureate
All scholars at Evergreen Middle participate in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Program (MYP). Evergreen received authorization for the Middle Years Program in August of 2013.* The IB Middle Years Program is a challenging program that helps scholars in grades 6-10 develop the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and skills necessary to actively participate in a changing world. Scholars who begin the MYP at Evergreen participate in Years 1-3 of the program. When they graduate and move on to high school, scholars can choose to continue participation in the program by going to Thomas Jefferson: our partnership school which has Years 4-5 of the MYP program.
MYP is not a curriculum, but a set of frameworks that focuses on critical thinking, reading, and project-based learning that encourages student inquiry. The program provides students with a global perspective by exposing them to people and cultures from around the world, and allows students to make connections between what they are learning in the classroom to their personal lives, and to the global society as a whole. The MYP philosophy focuses on Learner Profiles and Approaches to Learning that will strengthen schoolwork strategies and encourage academic as well as personal growth. MYP units are inquiry-based, and assignments will be graded using both the FWPS Priority Standards and IB rubric scoring criterion. At the end of each semester, scholars will receive a report card with grades based on an 8-point scale to incorporate both of these scores.
The MYP aligns with Goals 2 and 3 of Federal Way’s Strategic Plan: whole child and active learners. Every scholar will be empowered and prepared to develop personal responsibility in order to be positive, productive members of society, and will be empowered with ownership of their education and be fully engaged in becoming critical and creative thinkers.

Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its four programs: the Primary Years Program (PYP), the Middle Years Program (MYP), the Diploma Program (DP) or the Career-Related Program (CP). For further information about the IB and its programs, Click Here
