Play Chess and Read with Superintendent Dr. Tammy Campbell
Beginning the 2016-17 school year, Federal Way Public Schools elementary and secondary scholars will have the opportunity to enter a monthly drawing to read and/or learn to play chess with Superintendent Dr. Tammy Campbell!
Dr. Campbell identified this as an important initiative due to research which shows chess can enhance a person’s ability to think critically and problem solve.
This initiative is in direct support of the district Strategic Plan Goal 3, “ACTIVE LEARNERS: Engaged, Empowered Critical Thinkers.”
Elementary scholar winners will be able to choose whether to read, or learn to play chess with Dr. Campbell, and secondary scholar winners will have the opportunity to learn to play chess with Dr. Campbell. All scholars who win will go home with a book and chess board.
When schools begin, scholars can pick up entry flyers from their school’s office manager. In addition, they can download the flyers to the right. After filling out the required information, scholars must submit the entry to their office manager by the 15th of each month. Dr. Campbell’s office will contact the winners.
