Mission Statement
Our mission at the Teaching for Learning department is to empower educators and support student success through rigorous, standards-based instruction and professional learning. We are committed to providing equitable access to quality education by managing programs that address diverse student needs, including Title I/LAP, Career and Technical Education, Highly Capable and Advanced Programs, and multilingual education. Through assessment, accountability, teacher induction, mentoring, and ongoing support, we strive to foster a strong and effective teaching workforce dedicated to continuous improvement and meeting the diverse learning needs of all students in our district.
Equity Statement
The Teaching for Learning Department will create, lead for and support culturally responsive standards-based curriculum ensuring that ALL scholars receive equitable access and opportunity to the GVC. We will monitor and measure scholar learning and teacher practice with an intentional focus on racial equity. We will lead for and model socially just instructional practices ensuring that each and every co-department is involved in and owns the work of racial equity, supporting staff in their delivery of effective instruction and scholars in their learning.
About Us
The Teaching for Learning department at Federal Way Public Schools oversees a comprehensive array of initiatives aimed at enhancing educational quality and student achievement. We ensure that PreK-12 instruction aligns with rigorous standards and provide professional development opportunities for educators. Additionally, our department manages programs such as Title I/LAP and Career and Technical Education to support diverse student needs. We focus on assessment and accountability practices to ensure continuous improvement in teaching and learning. Our department prioritizes teacher induction, mentoring, and ongoing support to cultivate a strong and effective teaching workforce.
