Memorial Field Virtual Tour

Memorial Field: Community Input

In Federal Way Public Schools, it’s important that our scholars, staff, and community feel a sense of pride and ownership in the spaces they use. We work hard to bring in multiple stakeholder voices during our decision-making process to capture the diverse perspectives of our community. And, with Memorial Field, it was no different.

Like all of our construction projects, we formed several committees to gather input from all stakeholders, then used that information to inform the direction of our designs and building features.

With the Memorial Field project specifically, our vision was to use an engaging collaborative process to rebuild Memorial Field for all users, designed to accommodate the diverse activities and communities served by Federal Way Public Schools and to be a welcoming ‘gem’ that instills a sense of pride and safety.

Once the initial plans were drafted, the FWPS Capital Projects team, along with our design partners McGranahan Architects, met with the scholar advisory, staff, and parent advisory, and held public feedback events to invite the local community to weigh in on the design. Groups were presented with options for building materials, track color, and more. Through these feedback sessions, groups were also able to share ideas for the feature banners which would be displayed in the home-side plaza. Originally, the banners featured stock images of athletes, but after scholar and family input, we shifted our focus to feature our own FWPS scholar-athletes. Thank you to each of you who shared this suggestion – the final banners look amazing!

We are proud to have the new Memorial Field mirror so much of our community feedback and know that it represents our entire community!

Thank you, voters!

The new Memorial Field exists because voters believed FWPS scholars deserved to learn and play in state-of-the-art facilities. Learn more about the project.
