Welcome Back Brigadoon Tigers-
I am extremely honored to be joining such an amazing Brigadoon community this year! As a parent of two school age children, I understand the trust you place in us to provide every possible opportunity for your child to build academic and social/emotional success. My highest priority is to ensure each child is honored and celebrated for the gifts that they bring to our Brigadoon family as well as ensuring equitable access to a guaranteed and viable curriculum. I am looking forward to meeting and collaborating with our students, staff, and families to provide safe and rigorous educational experiences for our scholars, every day.
My passion for providing better educational opportunities started with my part-time job as an ECEAP bus driver. This opportunity allowed me to see how important education impacts students in their early years. While driving a bus, I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree, Elementary K-8 teaching certificate, from Saint Martin’s College in 1998. After graduating, I began my teaching career at Whitman in the Tacoma Public School District. I continued to teach students in first, second, third, and fourth grades for the next 16 years. Within this time, I earned my Master of Education degree, with an emphasis in students at risk, from the University of Washington-Tacoma in 2003. I continued to improve my professional craft by becoming a Nationally Certified Teacher in 2005. Following that I transitioned to Stafford Elementary to complete my Administrative internship, while teaching first grade, and I earned my administrative credential from the University of Washington-Tacoma in 2015. My career allowed me to be the Assistant Principal at Woodmont K-8 for the last 4 years. Now, I am excited to be the new Principal here at Brigadoon Elementary School.
At Brigadoon, we will continue the work in nurturing both a child’s academic success as well as their social and emotional development. We will continue our commitment to Goal 1: The Early Years – Building the Foundation and Goal 2: The Whole Child – Thriving, Confident, and Responsible Individuals. Our team is committed to the continued PBIS support and academic rigor that our students expect as well as embark on a new journey to establish a transition model for our 5th graders headed to TAF@Saghalie. We will be partnering with TAF to provide our 5th graders experiences with Project Based Learning (PBL) opportunities to bridge and successfully support the transition to Middle School.
You are always welcome to stop by and please do not hesitate to contact me if you have questions or concerns. I am looking forward to an amazing year!
