Free Summer Meals

Funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), breakfast and lunch will be available for FWPS scholars and children ages 18 or younger at no cost.

How will the Summer Meals Program work?

All meals are available without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability.

One (1) meal per child is provided.
Children must be present and stay onsite to have their meal.
Meals may not be taken home or off-site.

Guidelines

In accordance with Federal civil rights law and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) civil rights regulations and policies, the USDA, its Agencies, offices, and employees, and institutions participating in or administering USDA programs are prohibited from discriminating based on race, color, national origin, sex, disability, age, or reprisal or retaliation for prior civil rights activity in any program or activity conducted or funded by USDA.

Persons with disabilities who require alternative means of communication for program information (e.g. Braille, large print, audiotape, American Sign Language, etc.), should contact the Agency (State or local) where they applied for benefits. Individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing or have speech disabilities may contact USDA through the Federal Relay Service at (800) 877-8339. Additionally, program information may be made available in languages other than English.

To file a program complaint of discrimination, complete the USDA Program Discrimination Complaint Form, (AD-3027) found online at: http://www.ascr.usda.gov/complaint filing cust.html, and at any USDA office, or write a letter addressed to USDA and provide in the letter all of the information requested in the form. To request a copy of the complaint form, call (866) 632-9992. Submit your completed form or letter to USDA by:

FRED Bus

FRED’s coming to see you this summer!

Who—or what—is FRED? A big green bus with a whole lot of fun on board.
We’re bringing books and games, including some that kids can take home with them. And lunch, too.

FRED is a service of Federal Way Public Schools, in partnership with the City of Federal Way, USDA, and King County Library.
All kids, birth to 18, are welcome to visit FRED. Watch for FRED at the following locations and times below from June 24 through July 24. Mondays through Thursdays except July 4-5.

Introducing SUN Bucks: Ensure Nutritious Meals for Your Child this Summer

We are excited to announce a new federal nutrition program that will provide families with $120 per eligible child to purchase food during the summer months, providing a boost in grocery budgets when school meals are unavailable.

Here are some key details about the SUN Bucks program:

Who is eligible: Eligibility for SUN Bucks is based on household income or participation in other public assistance programs, such as free school meals, SNAP (Basic Food/EBT) and TANF. You can learn if your child is eligible by using this online screening tool.

Benefits: Each eligible child will receive $120 to purchase groceries during the summer months. These funds will be distributed via an electronic benefits transfer (EBT) card, which can be used like a debit card at participating grocery stores and retailers.

How to enroll: Most families who are eligible for SUN Bucks will be automatically enrolled, without the need to submit an additional application. If you have not received word that your child(ren) are eligible, you can submit an application for SUN Bucks here: https://sunbucks.dshs.wa.gov/en/. You can also check the online screening tool to see if you need to apply.
