Title III

Scholars who:

• Identify as American Indian or Alaska Native on enrollment forms
• Are academically at risk based on classroom performance, assessments, or teacher input
• May benefit from additional language and literacy support

Note: Tribal enrollment is not required to receive support.

The process includes:

• Review of enrollment forms and/or home language surveys
• Academic review using grades, assessments, and teacher feedback
• Family communication for opting out
• WIDA English language proficiency screening (as appropriate)

A formal Parent Notification of Eligibility letter is sent prior to beginning services if scholar qualifies

The Title III AI/AN program in FWPS is designed to:

• Increase English language and literacy skills
• Support academic achievement across all subjects
• Affirm scholars’ cultural identity and sense of belonging
• Prepare scholars for college, career, and a bright future—aligned with FWPS’s mission and Strategic Goals 2, 5 and 5

Direct Services may include:

• Academic tutoring and literacy development
• Access to culturally relevant materials and programs (e.g., Since Time Immemorial curriculum, Lushootseed content)
• Saturday school, summer enrichment, and reading interventions
• School supplies and access to digital tools such as Lexia
• Field trips to college campuses and cultural institutions
• On-time graduation supports

Indirect Services may include:

• Professional development for staff focused on AI/AN student needs
• Classroom coaching and instructional strategies for equity
• Collaboration with Tribal partners and cultural experts

Families are essential partners in supporting the success of our American Indian and Alaska Native scholars. In alignment with this belief, FWPS:

• Hosts Native Family Nights and other cultural events
• Consults regularly with Tribal leaders and elders
• Provides materials and communications in preferred languages as part of our Language Access Plan

No. While we encourage participation, families may choose to opt out.

3. Teachers are provided with strategies and tools to support academic and cultural success
4. Families are invited to stay connected through events and communication
