International Transcripts
Vision
Building on our Core Beliefs, it is our vision to seek to ensure:
- A thoroughly researched, standardized, and timely procedure is followed with fidelity throughout the district (Pillar 4)
- High school scholars are placed in classes that will create a Graduation Pathway within four years of enrollment, regardless of their age, as required by Washington state law (Goal 5 ) (OSPI 2022)
- Scholars receive credits for successful completion of courses and demonstration of proficiency in subjects, as per the definition of credits (Goal 4) (WASBE 2023)
- Partial credit is awarded for highly mobile students as required by Washington state law (Pillar 3) (OSPI 2022)
- Scholars are not required to re-take courses for which they have already demonstrated Mastery-Based competency of the content (Goal 3) (OSPI 2022)
- That we honor and respect education systems around the world, and acknowledge the skills and knowledge that our scholars bring with them when they enroll in FWPS (Pillar 3)
FWPS is proud to recognize that our scholars come from all over the world, many bringing with them rich and rigorous educational experiences from their home countries. With that in mind, we have created a process through which scholars new to the United States who enroll in grades 9-12 can submit transcripts from their home schools and be awarded credit toward completion of the requirements for graduation.
Q&A
How do I submit my scholar’s secondary transcripts from our home country?
During registration, ensure that you provide any available documentation regarding your scholar’s previous education. These records may include (but are not limited to):
- Secondary Transcripts
- Year End or Semester Exam Results
- Leaving Certificates
- Grade Level Completion Certificates
- Attestations from Resettlement Agencies or the State Department
Once the school receives any documentation, they will share it with Multilingual Services who will begin the process of evaluating them for potential credits.
What if my scholar attended secondary school in our home country but we do not have access to the transcripts?
We understand that some families may not have official school records from other countries. This should not prevent scholars from receiving credit for courses they’ve completed.
Please communicate with your child’s school about the Verbal Attestation process.
It is important to understand that credits earned in other countries may not always transfer exactly to our school system. However, we make every effort to ensure that scholars receive appropriate credit for the learning they have already completed.
