Bright Futures Kindergarten

Because BFK is a transitional program, and a hybrid between preschool and kindergarten, families that are interested in registering their child in BFK must submit a Pre-Screening Application for Preschool to be considered.

Yes. BFK is a transitional kindergarten program that focuses on academic and social-emotional skills to prepare children for a successful transition in kindergarten.

BFK classes are taught by a certificated teacher with a paraeducator for support. The classes are limited to 20 scholars.

The program is offered at Lake Dolloff, Mark Twain, Olympic View, Silver Lake, Rainier View, and Valhalla. Each school serves scholars that live within the school’s service areas. 

Classes will begin the Monday after the first day of FWPS schools and run Monday through Friday. BFK will follow the same schedule and breaks as FWPS schools.

Bright Futures Kindergarten is a full day transitional kindergarten program focused on essential academic and social emotional skills needed for school. The Bright Futures K program helps ensure our scholars are on grade level as readers by the end of the third grade. Data shows students who are proficient in reading by the end of third grade are more likely to graduate.
