Rainier View Elementary School is celebrating positive behavior with its Friday “Eagle Fest” recesses, to recognize students for making good choices throughout the week. As part of the school’s Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) system, Eagle Fest reinforces expectations of being safe, kind, and responsible. It is something students look forward to, capping the end of the school week with a fun and meaningful time.

Friday Eagle Fest recess has engaging group options for the students to gather around. There are team sports, jump rope, a dance party, and trail walks for scholars around the playground, offering opportunities that promote teamwork and friendly competition.

Along with the activities, students can also use their eagle feathers for snacks available at Eagle Fest, including candy. Throughout the week, students earn the “eagle feathers” from teachers and staff when they are seen following school expectations being safe, kind, and responsible during recess and in class. These feathers act as a form of recognition and encouragement, helping students see that their everyday choices matter.

Rainier View 5th grader La'niyah looked forward to the new activity, saying, “I like the recess and the snacks. It encourages us to get these eagle feathers, and our behavior is better, if we have something like these snacks to encourage us.”

Eagle Fest reflects Rainier View Elementary’s commitment to creating a positive school culture where good behavior is noticed, celebrated, and encouraged. By turning expectations into opportunities for fun and connection, the school is helping students associate kindness and responsibility with positive outcomes. As Eagle Fest continues, it serves as a weekly reward, but also as a powerful reminder that positive behavior helps the entire school community soar.
