Federal Way Public Schools held a ribbon cutting celebration for the brand-new Olympic View K-8 school on Wednesday, October 4, 2023. FWPS staff, Olympic View K-8 families, elected officials, and community members, including many former and prospective Olympic View scholars, gathered for the event.

The event marked the completion of construction and featured remarks from Superintendent Dr. Dani Pfeiffer and other key members of the FWPS and Olympic View community, along with a special music performance of the Olympic View school song performed by the fifth-grade class. Following the program, those in attendance were invited to explore the new building through self-guided tours to view the improvements for themselves and speak with the construction and architect teams. Olympic View swag and refreshments were also available for guests to enjoy.

Olympic View K-8 is the seventh of eight aging schools to be rebuilt under the phase 2 school construction bond passed in 2017. The project addressed overcrowding, deteriorating facilities, and security issues, among other concerns. Beyond a new and modern school building, scholars are now enjoying improved security, a Learning Resource Pavilion, a Discovery Lab, and design features with a connection to nature, among other things.

Additionally, formerly an elementary school, Olympic View now serves expanded grade levels as a K-8. The school will serve sixth-grade students during the 2023-24 school year and add an additional grade to ultimately serve eighth-grade scholars by the 2026-27 school year.

“This school represents the long-standing support of a community who believed in our scholars’ futures as much as we do,” shared Superintendent Dr. Dani Pfeiffer. “I am excited for the thousands of young people who will enjoy Olympic View K-8 now and over many years to come. Thank you for coming to celebrate what we’ve accomplished together – our young people greatly benefit from your investment, commitment, and generosity.”
