Watch the latest FWPS Groundbreaking Celebration, marking the start of construction of the brand-new Olympic View K-8

The groundbreaking celebration will debut on February 24 at 3 p.m.

Federal Way, Wash – Federal Way Public Schools debuted the groundbreaking video celebration for the brand-new Olympic View school on February 24, at 3:00 p.m. The premiere event marked the start of construction and featured remarks from Superintendent Dr. Dani Pfeiffer and other key members of the FWPS and Olympic View community, as well as a sneak peek at the virtual 3D building concept. Scholars and the neighboring community can look forward to a new and improved building serving expanded grade levels as a K-8 school.

The current Olympic View Elementary was originally in 1962 and is the seventh of eight aging FWPS schools to be rebuilt under the Phase 2 bond. Completely rebuilding the school will address overcrowding, deteriorating facilities, and security issues, among other concerns. In advance of construction, current scholars have moved to a temporary offsite location to await their new school which is estimated to be completed in the fall of 2023.

Building features highlighted in the groundbreaking celebration include:

  • Connection to Nature
Biophilic design will be incorporated with natural finishes, light from above, an outdoor learning area, and prominent views to nature.
  • Improved Security
The new school facility will include enhanced security features, including security cameras and a secure, welcoming entry which connects to the main office.
  • Learning Resource Pavilion
Common areas will encourage access and well-being with a Discovery Lab, Whole Child Tree, kitchenette, spaces for student support partnerships and more.

Throughout the design process, the architects engaged with and incorporated feedback from scholars, parents, and community members, in addition to district and school staff. These individuals helped inform a new building design that will best serve Olympic View K-8 scholars and families.

“We are incredibly excited to provide our scholars, staff and community with a modern school environment designed to support academic success,” shared Superintendent Dr. Pfeiffer. “This opportunity to rebuild Olympic View was only made possible by the investment of our community. We are so thankful to voters who continue to support our scholars. Soon, children will enjoy a state-of-the-art space that encourages learning, collaboration, and innovation.”
