Federal Way, WA — On Tuesday, August 19, Federal Way Public Schools hosted its sixth annual New to FWPS Breakfast at the Federal Way Performing Arts and Events Center, welcoming more than 125 new certificated staff members to the district.

The morning opened with an inspiring performance by the award-winning Decatur High School Jazz Band, fresh off their first-place finishes at the 2025 Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival.

Superintendent Dr. Dani Pfeiffer centered her welcome on the theme of being Opportunity Makers. “Every one of our 21,500+ students has a dream for their future,” she said. “Our mission is to create endless opportunities and open as many doors as possible for them to pursue those dreams. Together, we can change trajectories, one relationship, one lesson, and one classroom at a time.”

FWPS Board President Dr. Jennifer Jones affirmed the board’s support for staff and emphasized the lifelong impact educators have on scholars. “Whether you are introducing our preschoolers to the classroom, guiding students through middle school, or launching our high schoolers into their futures, your impact will be remembered,” she said.

Other speakers highlighted the unique rewards of joining Team Federal Way. Thomas Jefferson High School Principal Joe Rush reminded staff of the strong supports in place and promised: “You will love our kids. Nowhere in the state will you find a more diverse, eclectic, likeable group of kids to work with.”
