From Folklore to Fine Art: Olympic View K-8 Korean Dual Language Program Kindergarten Artists Shine

The Korean Dual Language Program kindergarteners at Olympic View K-8 celebrated a beautiful milestone this week with their very first Korean Folklore Art Show! Inspired by the Korean folktales they’ve been reading in class the young artists brought these stories to life with color, creativity, and imagination with a wide range of beautiful art. Olympic View K-8’s library was adorned with art representing Korean culture such as attire, houses, ornaments and flags.

While exploring the folklore stories in class, they learned the values and lessons, as well as seeing the cultural values, symbolism, and storytelling traditions in them. Their artwork became a window into these narratives—filled with vibrant patterns, miniature towns, and hanging paper lanterns.

Families, staff, and friends filled the room with smiles as their kindergarten artists proudly shared the meaning and thinking behind their pieces. The students were thrilled to display their work, and their family members were proud of the work and thought their children put into the many projects.

Kindergarten teacher Ms. Kim was excited about the success of the event saying, “it's good to see families coming in, learning about what we're doing in class, and learning about Korean culture through their scholars. We really hope that this is an annual event that continues, and next year will have kindergarten and first graders.”
