Federal Way Memorial Field Ribbon Cutting Brings Energy and Pride to the Federal Way Community
Federal Way Public Schools hosted a ribbon cutting for the brand-new Federal Way Memorial Field on Monday, November 13, 2023, from 4:30-5:30 p.m. FWPS scholars, families, staff, local elected officials and community members were in attendance to share in this milestone.
After over fifty years, Memorial Field has been rebuilt, thanks to voters who approved the 2017 school construction bond. The new athletic facility features increased capacity in two new grandstands, upgraded and additional team rooms, a new heavy weight field turf and track surface, bright LED field lights, improved security and so much more.
To celebrate the opening of Memorial Field, cheerleaders from each FWPS comprehensive high school provided a warm welcome to attending guests, and once the program began, attendees rose in the grandstands while watching the Federal Way High School and Todd Beamer Air Force JRTOC Color Guard perform to the National Anthem, played by a combined high school band. Remarks followed the introduction, with Federal Way Public Schools superintendent Dr. Dani Pfeiffer thanking organizations and individuals who greatly contributed to the completion of the project, board president Trudy Davis sharing how the new facility will benefit the Federal Way community, and four scholar-athletes sharing what the new Memorial Field means to them, personally and collectively as athletes. They also expressed their gratitude for being featured in the stadium’s graphic murals located in the home plaza.
Another highlight of the evening was the ribbon cutting, which was an all-inclusive affair. While select FWPS scholars and staff, school board, and elected officials took to the field to cut the ribbon, guests in the grandstands were also invited to be included in the captured moment. With the new LED grandstand lights in FWPS blue setting the stage, attendees cheered as the ribbon was cut, and the moment forever memorialized through photos.
Following the program, attendees were invited to participate in a ceremonial first lap led by enthusiastic cheerleaders as stadium lighting danced to celebratory band music. Guests also had the chance to tour the upgraded team rooms, speak with the construction and architect teams, and take photos at a photo booth.
