DiscoverU 2025 Recap

DiscoverU 2025 Recap

We had an amazing DiscoverU Week! Throughout this week, scholars expressed their enthusiasm for their bright futures.

This has been an incredible week of college and career exploration, and it was a joy to see our scholars learn about how to make an impact in their community, find careers of interest, and plan for their futures.

FWPS kicked off DiscoverU Week today with the theme #DiscoverLocalJobs. Scholars learned about careers and scholars across the district learned about career options in our region.

At Panther Lake, classes had a read aloud time during breakfast. The book was “Who do you want to be?” and they learned all about who they can be by following their inspirations and what they love. After the book reading the scholars shared with each other the different things they are good at and what they love.

At Adelaide Elementary, scholars were fascinated to hear from guest speakers, including a firefighter, an author, a social worker, a police officer, and an airplane pilot, who talked about local jobs and careers throughout the day.

On Tuesday, scholars looked at their potential future!

At Lake Dolloff, students came to school dressed in their profession, Todd Beamer High School scholars wrote letters to their future self, and Decatur High School scholars talked with Marines. These are just a selection of possible careers our students can find themselves in the future.

Wednesday was Classroom to Careers day. Scholars started to connect the dots on how their learning transfers to careers.

Truman Campus Career Academy scholars Sage and Delilah read to Truman ECEAP scholars in the Birch classroom. Sage read the book Whose Hat is This? with the ECEAP students engrossed in guessing what hat goes with the different professions, and Delilah followed that up with Clothesline Clues to Jobs People Do. The books gave examples of many different jobs and careers and the clothes the students might find themselves in the future!

At Kilo MS, students in Ms. Anderson’s class played the Game of Life, where each scholar made choices around education, careers, and lifestyle to discover how those decisions shape their financial futures.

Meanwhile at Camelot Elementary, scholars of all grades visited the school garden to explore STEAM careers in agriculture, horticulture, irrigation engineering, vermiculture, and beyond. From planting to problem-solving, students got a taste of what it’s like to work in science and sustainability!

On #CollegeGearDay, FWPS scholars and staff are expressed their school pride by wearing college gear.

Scholars at Enterprise Elementary school took some pictures at the Photo Booth using the props crafted by the school's staff.

Lakota Middle School scholars wore college gear and Central office staff also participated in the day sporting gear representing the college they attended!

So much inspiration, learning, and dreaming packed into one amazing week! 💡🌱
