Bridging Cultures: Korean Consulate Supports Language Learning at Olympic View K-8

Bridging Cultures: Korean Consulate Supports Language Learning at Olympic View K-8

🇰🇷✨ Olympic View K-8 welcomed special guests from the Korean Consulate General in Seattle!

Consul General Seo Eun-ji, members of the Korean Education Office, and members of the Korean community toured the brand-new Korean Dual Language classroom and joined in a phonetics lesson with our kindergarten scholars. The school was also presented with a generous grant in support of the Korean Dual Language Program at Olympic View K-8, which is the first of it’s kind in Washington state!

📚 Students also enjoyed a vibrant lesson from Jeonbuk Office of Education, deepening their global connections through storytelling.

“We appreciate the support, partnership and friendship of (FWPS Superintendent) Dr. Dani Pfeiffer and the school district with the Korean Consulate and the Korean Education Office,” said Consul General Seo. “This is the first launch of the Korean Dual Language Program in Washington State, and we’re proud to support it.”

The program is academically rigorous, helping students learn to listen, read, speak, and write in Korean. In Kindergarten, instruction is 90% in Korean, with about half of the scholars speaking the partner language.

🌍 Olympic View K-8 proudly offers dual language programs in Korean/English and Spanish/English, empowering students to become bilingual, biliterate, and achieve sociocultural competence.
