FWPS scholar wins Junior Golden Gloves national boxing championship

We'd like to acknowledge a scholar who won the Junior Golden Gloves national boxing championship belt in his third trip to the big ring.

Nathan Kim began boxing at age eight and has had about 20 amateur fights.

Not only is Nathan a great athlete, he also excels in the classroom as a standout eighth grade student in the International Baccalaureate program at Totem Middle School. This is in alignment wiht the district strategic plan Goal 3 for all scholars to be engaged, empowered critical thinkers.

Keep up the great work, Nathan!

Integrity Life Church helps FWPS scholars prepare for success at school

We would like to thank our community partner, Integrity Life Church, for its generosity in helping collect school supplies. Integrity Life Church passed out backpacks and fed many people at this year’s free backpack giveaway event.

This is the sixth year the church has undergone this effort to help our scholars get ready for school.

We'd like to recognize the following individuals for their support:

  • Pastor Joseph Bowman and family
  • Taylonya Gabriel and family

Providing essential school supplies to our families in greatest need results in our scholars being prepared to learn when thy arrive to school every day. This is in support of strategic plan Goal 3 to help each scholar be an engaged, empowered, critical thinker and Goal 4, which strives for each scholar to have equitable opportunity for academic success.

Thank you, Integrity Life Church, for all you do to hlep prepare our scholars for success at school!

That’s 578 more pounds than last year and the largest donation amount that’s happened for the Fill the Canoe school supply effort in Federal Way!

This is in support of strategic plan Goal 3 to help each scholar be an engaged, empowered, critical thinker and Goal 4 which strives for each scholar to have equitable opportunity for academic success.

We'd like to recognize the following partners for their support:

  • Bridget O’Connor, Red Canoe Credit Union
  • Tracy Oster, Communities in Schools of Federal Way
  • Capt. Jeff Bellinghausen on behalf of Chief Kevin Crossen, South King Fire & Rescue
  • Misty Lara, Grace Church
  • David Wilson, Federal Way Public Schools

A big thank you to Federal Way Public School staffer David Wilson for helping with this effort for the last 18 years. David donates his own time to the sorting and distribution of the project, and also has donated many supplies over the years.

Thanks to these partners, and the numerous organizations and individuals who donated their time, money, and/or supplies to make this year’s school supply drive a big success!
