We’re excited to recognize our outstanding AFJROTC scholars from Federal Way High School for advancing to the 2024–25 Northwest JROTC Drill and Rifle Conference Championships

Federal Way High School’s Color Guard Team #2, Unarmed Drill Team, and Individual Armed Exhibition earned their place at the regional championships by placing in the top three of their categories in the Narrows View JROTC Drill Division. This competition included 32 JROTC units from across Washington and Oregon, representing all service branches—Air Force, Army, Navy, and Marine Corps.

We also want to give special recognition to Jaelen who placed third in the state as Color Guard Team Leader #2!

Let’s give a big round of applause to Jordynn, an eighth-grade scholar from Kilo Middle School, who has been selected to represent the island nation of Samoa at the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco this October!

At just 14 years old, Jordynn is one of the youngest players on Samoa’s national team—and she's making history. Earlier this year, she and her teammates became the first from a Pacific Island nation to compete in the Dallas Cup, a major international youth soccer tournament.

Samoa’s appearance in the U-17 World Cup will also be a first for the nation—and Jordynn is a part of that legacy.

Jordynn, your hard work and dedication are inspiring. We are so proud of you and will be cheering you on from here in Federal Way Public Schools!

Congratulations!

Congratulations to the Decatur High School Jazz Band for their outstanding achievements!

At the 2025 Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival—one of the oldest and most prestigious jazz festivals in the nation—Decatur Jazz Band 1 and Jazz Band 2 earned first place in Division II! This incredible accomplishment is a testament to their talent, discipline, and dedication to excellence in music.

We also want to recognize Logan, who earned third place in the solo trumpet category at the WIAA/WMEA State Solo and Ensemble Contest—a highly competitive event featuring the top high school musicians across Washington.

We are so proud of your hard work and musical achievements. Congratulations, Decatur scholars!

Please join me in celebrating 12 outstanding seniors from our district who have each been selected to receive a $1,000 scholarship from the Federal Way Rotary Club!

With the Rotary International motto of “Service Above Self” in mind, these scholarships honor scholars who demonstrate leadership, academic achievement, and a strong commitment to service and community involvement.

These funds will support our scholars as they continue their education at a college, university, or technical training program—and we’re so proud of each recipient for earning this recognition.

To the Federal Way Rotary Club, thank you for your long-standing partnership and investment in our future leaders. Your generosity continues to make a lasting impact on the lives of our students.

Congratulations, scholars!

Thank you to the 2024-25 Scholar Representatives to the Board!

In Federal Way Public Schools, incorporating student voice is central to informing the work of serving each of our 21,000+ student-scholars.

Students from the Scholar Advisory to the Superintendent team presented a recommendation and outlined the application and selection process for the Scholar Representatives to the Board.

The purpose of scholar representatives’ participation at board meetings is to provide valuable input on school district operations.

At the beginning of the school year, an interview team selected Sofia, Izzy, and Yandel, who served as Scholar Representatives to the Board for the 2024-25 school year.

We would like to acknowledge and thank them for their service!

This effort is in support of district strategic plan Goal 2: thriving, confident, responsible individuals.

Thank you for your leadership!

Thank you to Sofia, Izzy, and Yandel, the 2024-25 Scholar Representatives to the Board!
