TJHS scholar-athlete named WIAA athlete of the week
Each week throughout the school year, the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association recognizes athletes who are in good academic standing and exhibit an outstanding athletic performance.
The board would like to recognize Thomas Jefferson High School bowling scholar-athlete Whitney Lee, who was selected as a 4A female Washington Interscholastic Activities Association Athlete of the Week!
Lee helped carry her team to the WCD Bowling Tournament title with a score of 277. She had a perfect game going into the 10th frame and came within 10 pins of breaking the state record.
Participation in extracurricular activities is in direct support of strategic plan Goal Three: active learners, engaged, empowered, critical thinkers.

Congratulations to the Thomas Jefferson High School girls bowling team for placing second in the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association state tournament! Lakota Middle School Coach named Middle School Wresting Coach of the Year
Congratulations to Dallas Harwood, Lakota Middle School’s head wresting coach who has been selected by his fellow coaches as the North Puget Sound League 4A Middle School Wrestling Coach of the Year!
Dallas is known by his fellow coaches as someone who models great sportsmanship for his wrestlers. His efforts have resulted in growth of the program over the last 10 years. Lakota has around 50–60 student-athletes participating each year.
Efforts such as this are in support of strategic plan Goal Three, active learners, engaged, empowered critical thinkers.
We are so proud of you for gaining the respect of fellow schools in the North Puget Sound League, and being a role-model wrestling coach. Way to go!
Scholars score above 1500 on SAT
We would like to recognize our scholars who had excellent performance on the SAT, and earned above a 1500 score. This is an important step toward post-secondary success and is in support of Goal Five of our strategic plan, persistence to graduation.

The SAT is a standardized test widely used for college admissions in the United States. These students performed on, or above the 99th percentile, and we couldn’t be more proud.
Over 1,000 scholars sign up for College Bound
Federal Way Public Schools is pleased to report that 1,021 — or 87 percent — of last year’s eligible eighth graders, signed up for the College Bound Scholarship program by the June 30 deadline. This is in direct support of Goal Five of our strategic plan, persistence to graduation. Statewide, over 29,000 — or 71 percent — of eligible students signed up for the program.
Governor Inslee has recognized Federal Way Public Schools as one of the top school districts to exceed the statewide average sign-up rate of 71 percent. To commemorate this acknowledgment, the governor has presented Federal Way Public Schools with the Gold Star Award.
I would like to acknowledge the work of two of our district leaders Deputy Superintendent Dr. Dani Pfeiffer and David Stone.

The College Bound Scholarship helps Washington’s income eligible students reach higher levels of educational attainment. In combination with other state aid, it covers tuition at public college rates. Eligible students sign up in middle school by June 30 of their eighth grade year to receive an early commitment of state funding.
Todd Beamer High School AFJROTC performed well in competition
The Todd Beamer High School Air Force JROTC recently hosted a competition. There were almost 300 cadet competitors in various events including armed inspection, regulation and exhibition; unarmed inspection, color guard; individual and dual unarmed exhibition; and strength team. The Todd Beamer High School Color Guard placed second out of seven other teams.
