Congratulations to 12 scholars from Federal Way High School and 1 from Thomas Jefferson High School for showcasing their talents in an impressive 23 events at the Washington State Southwest Regional Thespian Competition

Four scholars received Superior ratings and qualified for the national competition in June! Eleven scholars also left the competition with Excellent ratings, securing the title of State Honoree. Additionally, one Lakota Middle School scholar also performed at the Washington State Junior Thespian Festival and earned an Excellent State Honoree Award too. Altogether, our scholars took home a total of 20 event awards!

The International Thespian Excellence Awards (or Thespys for short) recognize the highest level of achievement in school theatre performance, technical theatre, writing, and filmmaking.

Students from each of our comprehensive high schools competed against 345 students from 23 schools across the region at the Distributive Education Clubs of America’s Area Conference competition and 72 of our scholars qualified to advance to the State Career Development Conference!

DECA is a student organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management in high schools around the globe.

Scholars competed in different categories comprised of 30 individual and team events and only the top seven advanced to the state competition. Some of our scholars also submitted a 20-page and 50-page written project entry and earned additional entries to the state competition.

Congratulations to Thomas Jefferson High School scholar, Gabriel Cruz for winning the 2024 City of Federal Way’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Community Celebration Student Essay Contest.

Gabriel’s winning essay incorporated the event theme, “Building Community Bridges,” and he received an award certificate and $200 prize money from City of Federal Way Diversity Commissioner Ron Walker during the Federal Way City Council meeting.

Congratulations to our scholar mathematicians who participated in the Math Bonanza competition for grades 4th to 8th!  The competition is designed to reward excellence in mathematics and consists of schools from across the region competing with one another.
