FWPS scholars attend Youth Safety Academy, supported by the Federal Way Police Department and South King Fire and Rescue
In July, scholars attended the second annual Youth Safety Academy put on by the Federal Way Police Department and South King Fire and Rescue centered on safety and police/youth relationships which supports goal two: scholars who are engaged, empowered, critical thinkers.
We'd like to recognize the following students who participated in the academy:

Students spent one day at the Federal Way Police Department where they:
Learned how both texting and driving under the influence can be very dangerous and illegal;
Discussed topics such as what a career in law enforcement looks like; and
Met and played with K9 dog Kaiser, the bomb unit and SWAT team.
Students spent the second day at South King Fire and Rescue Station 67 where they:
Sprayed a fire hose;
Used the Jaws of Life to cut open a car;
Tried on the fire department uniform, and talked about the equipment;
Learned CPR and other lifesaving skills; and
Learned HAZMAT procedures and try on equipment, etc.
We would also like to recognize community leaders who helped put on the academy.
