Memorial Field Groundbreaking Marks Start of Construction of the New Athletic Facility
On Wednesday, February 1, 2023, from 3:30-4:30 p.m., Federal Way Public schools held a groundbreaking at Memorial Field to mark the start of construction of a new athletic facility for Federal Way Public Schools and the surrounding community with a groundbreaking celebration!
Memorial Field and its related structures are over 50 years old. The new design is a result of input from all stakeholders, and we're excited to start this project to rebuild this athletic facility used by both our schools and the community.
The new facility will feature:
- New turf
- Increased capacity in two new grandstands
- Upgraded team rooms
- Upgraded safety and security features
- And more!
At the groundbreaking celebration:
- Hear from Superintendent Dr. Dani Pfeiffer, FWPS board president, and FWPS athletic director
- Watch the formal throwing of dirt ceremony
- View building plans
- Speak with representatives from BNBuilders, Inc. and McGranahan Architects, our design-build team

New Groundbreaking in Federal Way Public Schools!
Celebrate the start of construction on the new Olympic View K-8 with us!
Olympic View Elementary is the seventh school to be rebuilt thanks to voter approval of the phase 2 school construction bond in November 2017, and we’re so grateful for the new opportunities these buildings will bring to our scholars. The planning process began in 2020. Now that the design phase has been completed, we are eager to begin construction on a new school which will serve expanded grade levels as a K-8 school. Students will soon enjoy improved learning environments that foster collaboration, innovation, and achievement as a result of the following building features:
- Connection to Nature
Biophilic design will be incorporated with natural finishes, light from above, an outdoor learning area, and prominent views of nature. - Improved Security
The new school will integrate enhanced security features, including security cameras and a secure welcoming entry that connects to the main office. - Learning Resource Pavilion
Common areas will encourage access and well-being with a Discovery Lab, Whole Child Tree, kitchenette, spaces for student support partnerships and more.
Make sure to watch this exciting video celebration, which will feature remarks from Dr. Pfeiffer and other key members of the FWPS and Olympic View community, as well as a peek at the virtual 3D building concept.
