Coronavirus Information Update, March 9, 2020
Hello FWPS Parents and Guardians,
The health of our students, staff, and families is of utmost importance to us. The state is considering more stringent social distancing measures, and we want to err on the side of caution and reduce traffic into our schools.
As a result, you will see two major impacts, one is to the upcoming SLCs and the other is in relation to after school events.
Scholar Led Conferences (SLCs)
We know that scholar-led conferences (SLCs) are a valuable time to share your child’s academic goals and progress. In lieu of SLCs, we will be holding phone conversations with parents and guardians about scholar progress.
The purpose of this email is to let you know that the March 19-20, 2020 scholar-led conferences will not be held in person. Instead, we will be holding phone conversations during your scheduled conference time. If this change in format prompts you to want to revisit your scheduled time, please contact your school directly. Portfolios will be sent home with students next week. This compilation of work is to be shared and kept at home. More specific information will be provided by your child’s teacher.
We appreciate your flexibility and partnership towards your child’s academic success. If your child’s conference hasn’t been scheduled yet, your child’s teacher(s) will be in touch with you to schedule the phone appointment. For the secondary level, you may also contact your child’s teacher for questions about specific content areas.
Here’s what you can expect to discuss with your child’s teacher during this time:
1. Highlight areas of strength and areas for growth
2. Review your child’s academic and social emotional progress based on reports and information in the portfolio.
3. To support the conversation, here are a few questions to consider asking your child:
• What is something you are proud of this semester?
• What is an area of growth that you will choose to work on?
• What is a goal you have for the rest of this year?
After School Events
Additional measures we are taking in relation to social distancing:
In order to reduce exposure and prevent the spread of the coronavirus, we are canceling school evening and weekend events through Monday, April 13, 2020. More detailed information will be coming directly from your school.
We would like to thank you for your flexibility and patience. We continually make decisions based on the latest guidance from Public Health – Seattle & King County Public Health in the interest of safety, health, and well-being for our students and staff.
