2019 Retirement Celebration

-
Federal Way Public Schools held the third annual retirement celebration on May 30, 2019 to honor this year’s retirees.
The certificated and classified retirees represent the dedicated people it takes to ensure a bright future for every scholar. All retirees collectively account for over 494 years of service to FWPS scholars, families, staff and the community.
During welcome remarks Dr. Tammy Campbell, FWPS superintendent said, “Thank you to those retiring for nudging our scholars forward and ensuring they reach their absolute, best potential. We are who we are today because of your contributions.”
Retirees enjoyed dinner and performances by scholars. The Sequoyah Middle School Music Ensemble performed while guests arrived and the Truman Head Start scholars performed “You Are My Sunshine.” Decatur High School scholar Alicia Geimer, 2019 state solo flutist, performed “Fantasie for Solo Flute No 4” by Teleman. Todd Beamer High School scholar Minh Tran who was recognized for winning the X Factor Vietnam and recently appeared on American Idol 2019 in the top 40 performed “Hero” by Mariah Carey.
In each retiree’s recognition, student stories highlighted the effective and caring staff we have in Federal Way Public Schools. For example, an Olympic View Elementary scholar shared the difference a staff member made in her life when she said, "Thank you Mrs. Carrie Cubbage for helping me with my Independent Reading Level Assessment Reading! I have increased my IRLA score this year with your help. Thank you for helping me to be a better reader, but more importantly a better learner!”
