The more you know.......
Night of the Homework Zombies - Explains how Trevor deprogrammed his brainwashed class from loving homework.
New Kid - The first graphic novel to win the Newberry Award. Jordan is an African-American boy who loves art. He wants to go to his neighborhood school but his parents send him to a private school that is suppposed to be better. He has to learn to fit in or does he?
Double Bass Blues - by Andrea Loney Illustrated by Rudy Gutierrez. Great pictures. A story about music. About someone doing what they like, not what others think they should do. Great pictures.
The Year We Fell From Space - looks great. It’s aimed at an older audience, 5th -8th. The author’s notes in the back talk about mental health and mental health resources, so that may be an underlying theme.
Also, Lottie and Walter is great. It’s about a girl who is afraid to go into the swimming pool during swimming lessons….because she’s afraid of the shark in the water. Then, she “meets” Walter the Walrus. It’s great by itself, but also would pair well with Jabari Jumps, which is one of my all-time favorites.
If you are interested in any of these let me know.
