Enrollment Information for New Parents

  • Federal Way Public Schools is progressively increasing what can be accomplished online for parents and scholars to reduce the amount of physical paperwork that families need to submit. The district has upgraded our Student Information System to support online registration. To assist parents we have created the following scenarios to help guide you into the system.

Enrollment Scenarios for New Parents

  •  SCENARIO ONE

    A new parent with no scholars currently enrolled in the district, ready to enroll one or more scholars.

    Steps

    1) If you do not currently have a parent account, go to the online registration system and follow the prompts on the screen to create an account.  After you have created your account you will then need to verify the account.  Check your email for an email sent from the district to the address you used when the account was created, click the link in the email to continue the account creation process.

    NOTE: If you are a new family to our district, you will be creating a ParentVUE account in this process. You must have an active email address to proceed. If you do not have an active email address there are many companies that offer free email addresses, such as: 

    Google – Gmail account
    Microsoft – Outlook.com account
    Yahoo – Yahoo Mail

    Your default login username is your email address.

    2) Login and click on Begin New Registration.

    Complete the online enrollment process as presented on the screen.  There is a list of information needed to complete the enrollment in one session.  Below is a slide show that will assist to walk you through the screens of information that are presented during the enrollment process.

    If you are an existing parent in our system, you will use your current activated account. If you have not activated your ParentVUE account, please call your school for support. The school will be able to provide you directions for activating your account.

    During the process of completing the online registration, you will be told which school your student will be attending based on the address information you entered.  The online registration process requires you to enter information about your family, parent/guardians, emergency contacts, student information, and required documents.

    To complete online registration the following documents are required at the time of registration:

    • If your child is new to the district, you’ll need to bring the following or upload a scanned copy during the online registration process: An original birth certificate for Kindergarten students or first-graders enrolling in school for the first time. The following documents may be accepted as substitutes for the original birth certificate: a certified copy of the child’s birth certificate, a hospital certificate signed by the attending physician, a baptismal certificate, or passport. The official document is required. To get an official birth certificate for your child, contact the vital statistic records office in the county where your child was born, or go to https://www.usa.gov/replace-vital-documents
    • Proof of your address (phone and water bills or lease agreements, a Washington State driver’s license or an official document from a State or Federal agency. You may upload a scanned copy or bring a hard copy to the school.)
    • If you are unable to provide these documents or complete the online enrollment process, please contact the school in which you are attempting to enroll your student.     Once you have completed your online registration and received an acceptance email from the school you will be asked to complete some additional hard copy forms which include providing medical information about your child.

    •  Your child’s immunization records for measles, mumps, rubella, polio, diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, hepatitis B, and varicella (chickenpox).
    • If your child has life threatening conditions such as allergies, asthma, diabetes, and seizure disorders, a meeting will be scheduled with the school nurse to confirm that all medications, medical supplies, and health care provider orders are in place prior to the first day of school.

    SCENARIO TWO

    You're a new parent, and you created an account before moving to a Federal Way street address.

    If you created your account when you were living outside of the boundaries for Federal Way Public Schools, you can now update your address information online and submit an enrollment application which will place your student in a school based on your address.  To complete online registration the following documents are required at the time of registration:

    SCENARIO THREE

    A new parent with a new scholar who has been offered a place through the Choice program.

    Create a new parent account and proceed to create a new online registration for your scholar.  The school assigned initially will be based on your current address.  After the registration process is complete, contact your Choice school to inform them of your decision to accept the placement. Then contact the school your scholar attended last year to inform them of your switch to the Choice school.   It's important that you contact both schools to enable records to be released.
