On January 31, 2017 members of the 2018 Facilities Planning Committee met to review and discuss the condition of building elements at 19 school sites and consideration of a new elementary school. A decade ago when the district was considering future construction based on anticipated building condition and modernization needs, these sites were placed in construction phase two (there were a total of four phases; Federal Way High School is the last school for completion of phase one). The committee also received information on how school capital funding projects work. In addition, a current construction and market analysis was provided to give a sense of what building costs look like in other districts, and what costs may look like for Federal Way Public Schools moving forward.
