    Greetings Star Lake Families,

It’s here, it has finally arrived, our first day of school with scholars face to face here at Star Lake!  We are so excited to welcome each of you back to school!  Wednesday, September 1st is the first day for scholars in grades 1st-5th, and Tuesday, September 7th is the first day for kindergartners.  Our kindergarten teachers are excited to meet with all of their scholars and families this week during 1:1 WaKIDS meetings (follow the link they sent you to sign up)

Here are a few things to remember as we start school this week.  School hours are 8:45-3:15.

    1. Just a reminder that we are in our temporary location for this school year while Star Lake construction continues. We are located at 3600 S. 344th Way, Federal Way.  Bus transportation will be provided to and from school for ALL students who live in our Star Lake boundaries.  Families can go to the parent portal on and click on transportation, or look in your ParentVue account to find bus route and stop information.  Please be sure to be out at the bus stop about 10 mins early, and be flexible, the bus is sometimes a little early or late these first few days of school.
    2. If you did not get a chance to join me for our family welcome back zoom meeting, I recorded the meeting and uploaded it on our Star Lake website for you to access there. It contains important start of school information and our district safety protocols.
    3. Please check out the email your child’s teacher sent you on Tuesday, August 31st. It contains a link to their Canvas page, where you can watch a welcome video and get to “see” your teacher.
    4. We will have LOTS of adults available to help students find where they are going on the first day of school. We have staff members riding in on the bus, we will put name tags on students with teachers’ names, and we will have people all over the building available to escort students to their classrooms.
    5. If you want your child to eat breakfast at school, please tell them to say “I am eating breakfast” to the adult that greets them in the morning, so we can get them to the cafeteria. Breakfast and lunch is FREE to all FWPS scholars this year!

Thank you for entrusting your children to our care!  We are committed to providing rigorous, engaging instruction to all of our scholars and to welcoming them to Star Lake through positive relationship building and support.  We love learning and are excited to foster that love of learning in our scholars!

Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year!  Please don’t hesitate to call or email me with any questions, concerns, or feedback you may have.  I look forward to partnering with you all this year!

    Best Regards,

    Kris Rennie, principal  253-945-4007
