  • How to Register Your Child

    Federal Way Public Schools utilizes an online registration system for all new student registrations.

    If you are a new family to our district, you will be creating a ParentVUE account in this process. You must have an active email address to proceed. If you do not have an active email address there are many companies that offer free email addresses, such as:

    If you are an existing parent in our system, you will use your current activated account. If you have not activated your ParentVUE account, please call your school for support. The school will be able to provide you directions for activating your account. This page of directions will provide you a unique activation code and your first and last name as it appears currently in our system. As the directions will explain, you must enter these three items exactly as listed in the provided directions.

    During the process of completing the online registration, you will be told which school your student will be attending based on the address information you entered.

    The online registration process requires you to enter information about your family, parent/guardians, emergency contacts, student information, and required documents.

    Enrolling in Federal Way Public Schools

    Registration for the current school year, 2017-18, is available online.

    To enroll online, visit: www.fwps.org/kiosk, and click on the “Student Registration” link to start the process (make sure to select the 2017-18 school year). Families can also register in person at the child’s school during regular hours using a school provided laptop. To complete online registration the following documents are required at the time of registration:

    • If your child is new to the district, you’ll need to bring the following or upload a scanned copy during the online registration process: An original birth certificate for Kindergarten students or first-graders enrolling in school for the first time. The following documents may be accepted as substitutes for the original birth certificate: a certified copy of the child’s birth certificate, a hospital certificate signed by the attending physician, a baptismal certificate, or passport. The official document is required. To get an official birth certificate for your child, contact the vital statistic records office in the county where your child was born, or go to http://www.usbirthcertificate.com
    • Proof of your address (phone and water bills or lease agreements, a Washington State driver’s license or an official document from a State or Federal agency. You may upload a scanned copy or bring a hard copy to the school. )

    Once you have completed your online registration and received an acceptance email from the school you will be asked to complete some additional hard copy forms which include providing medical information about your child.

    • Your child’s immunization records for measles, mumps, rubella, polio, diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, hepatitis B, and varicella (chickenpox).
    • If your child has life threatening conditions such as allergies, asthma, diabetes, and seizure disorders, a meeting will be scheduled with the school nurse to confirm that all medications, medical supplies, and health care provider orders are in place prior to the first day of school.

Enrolling in Kindergarten

  • Kindergarten registration for the 2017-18 school year opened Friday, January 20, 2017. Families with a child who will be five-years-old by Aug. 31, 2017 are welcome to enroll their scholar online, or at school.

    To enroll online, visit: www.fwps.org/kiosk, and click on the “Student Registration” link to start the process (make sure to select the 2017-18 school year). Families can also register in person at the child’s school during regular hours. The following documents are required at the time of registration:

    • Your child’s birth certificate
    • Proof of your address (rental agreement, purchase agreement, or utility bill)
    • Your child’s immunization records for measles, mumps, rubella, polio, diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, hepatitis B, and varicella (chickenpox)

    If your child has life threatening conditions such as allergies, asthma, diabetes, and seizure disorders, a meeting will be scheduled with the school nurse to confirm that all medications, medical supplies, and health care provider orders are in place prior to the first day of school.

    It is also suggested that parents provide:

    • Two emergency contacts, including addresses and phone numbers
    • Physician, dentist, and child care addresses and phone numbers

    If you miss the registration period, it’s NOT too late to enroll your child. Just go to your neighborhood school during regular school hours.

    All schools hold kindergarten "Jumpstart" and "K-Camp" events prior to the start of the school year. Dates for these events can be found here.
