What is AmeriCorps?
AmeriCorps is a vast network of national service programs that operates under the Corporation for National & Community Service (CNCS). Every year more than 75,000 Americans join AmeriCorps to give back to their communities and serve. Comprised of three primary programs (NCCC, State and National, Vista), AmeriCorps seeks to get things done in hopes of improving lives and making a difference.
Our AmeriCorps Program
Since 1995, as a State and National program, Federal Way Public Schools AmeriCorps has proudly served the K-12 scholar population of our district. Members of the program come from various origins, both local and national, to provide academic support and coaching for student scholars. As a program, our direct focus is education, but occasionally we take the service experience beyond the school walls and perform community service projects. Members of the program are provided professional development and gain quality work experience during the 10.5 month service term. From retirees to entry level candidates, we pride ourselves on the diversity of our team.
Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.
Serving Students & Growing Leaders.
We provide intentional interventions to positively impact student success.
The FWPS AmeriCorps program consists of one project entitled Equity Corps. Equity Corps consists of 25 AmeriCorps members that provide support to students scholars by serving within AVID college readiness classrooms. Members facilitate AVID tutorials and support the AVID elective teacher in 6 of our middle school sites and 4 high schools. All Equity Corps members receive training and development to reinforce best practices in the field of education in an inclusive environment designed to foster the development of leadership skills.
