Lakota Arts Academy (7th)
Lakota Arts Academy- 7th Grade Only
Lakota Arts Academy Program Description
The Lakota Arts Academy (LAA) will allow students to develop self-esteem, to be self-expressive, and to apply their knowledge of other, more academic subjects in creative ways. Because the arts address multiple intelligences, they provide a gateway for certain students to enter academic areas that they may have otherwise found difficult or off-putting. According to The Kennedy Center, “when learning is active and experiential, reflective, social, evolving, and focused on problem-solving, it becomes engaging and motivating. Because arts integration aligns with how students learn best, students find it personally meaningful and are drawn to it. They seek more opportunities to learn in and through the arts. Arts integration is an approach to teaching in which students construct and demonstrate understanding through an art form. Students engage in a creative process which connects an art form and another subject area and meets evolving objectives in both.”
